All content within the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS)’s Armed Conflict Database (ACD), including logos, text, digital downloads, graphics, images, audio and video clips, data and content compilations is the exclusive property of the IISS or its content suppliers and is protected international copyright and trademark laws.

The IISS content may be used for research and private study purposes. All rights reserved. Any substantial or systematic reproduction, redistribution, reselling, loan, sub-licensing, systematic supply, or distribution in any form to anyone is expressly forbidden. Material may not be copied, reproduced, republished, downloaded, posted, or transmitted in any way for any commercial use. This requires the prior written permission of the IISS. Accessing the Armed Conflict Database web pages, you agree that you will access the contents solely for your own private use but not for any commercial or public use. All orders for subscriptions to the ACD submitted through our website are confirmed by e-mail, post after submission. No order made through the IISS should be deemed to be accepted without this confirmation. All orders are fulfilled subject to these terms and conditions.  

Prices quoted are in Pound Sterling, Euros or American Dollars. 


  1. You can buy publications including the Armed Conflict Database and make payments via the IISS website. 
  2. You may contact the ACD Sales Team with with your details and a list of what you would like to order. We will then call you back to arrange. (Important: do not e-mail us your credit card details.) 
  3. You may settle your order over the telephone, +44 (0) 207 379 7676. Payment can be accepted using Visa, MasterCard or Delta (debit or credit cards).
  4. You may print out and complete our order form, forward it to us by mail or facsimile +44 (0) 207 836 3108. Pay by Visa, MasterCard or Delta (debit or credit cards). Please make cheque or postal orders payable to The IISS. 

On creation of an account you will be able to view a sample conflict which is changed every month. Then on subscribing to the Armed Conflict database, access to the full database is immediate. We aim to process any queries regarding access or to the Armed Conflict Database within 24 hours or the next working day.

Please note that it is not possible to issue refund for digital products.


  1. Authentication System
    Access is provided through password, IP address or range of IP addresses and/or other Authentication System satisfactory to the IISS, by which the customer will ensure that only Authorised Users are given access to the Database Material electronically online. Access is for one year from the Effective Date and is non-refundable.
  2. 'Authorised User'
    An individual who at the Effective Date or during the Access Period is employed by or under contract to the customer (on a temporary, permanent or visiting basis). 
  3. 'Effective Date'
    The date of completion by the customer of the Registration Details or of payment of the Electronic Subscription Fee, if later. 
  4. Termination
    Access may be terminated by either party by giving 30 days' notice in writing to the other if the other party commits any material or persistent breach of any term of the access period and (in the case of a breach capable of being remedied) shall have failed within 30 days after the receipt of a written request to remedy the same.

    The International Institute for Strategic Studies does not accept liability for any losses, damages, charges, or expenses as a result of the use of the database.

We fully comply with the Data Protection Act (1998) and undertake precautions to keep information supplied to us by customers strictly confidential. The IISS never supplies mailing information to third parties. These conditions do not supersede statutory rights under the Sale of Goods acts but are designed to clarify the principles and procedures by which we operate.
