Kumpulan Mujahidin Malaysia (KMM) is a small, armed Islamic organisation that is seemingly intent on overthrowing the current government and creating an Islamic state. It has been accused of armed robbery, murder, and deploying improvised explosive devices. It is also believed to links to larger armed Islamic groups like Jemaah Islamiah and Laskar Jihad. The group has only enjoyed limited success in regard to achieving its aims, however, owing to lack of widespread sympathy and the detention of alleged militants without recourse to trial under the Internal Security Act (ISA) enacted in the early 1960s. The government has also targeted a smaller nationalist group, Al-Ma’unah.
